Recessed and new fixture layout
We spec recessed lighting off the room, not off a guess, choosing housing, trim, and spacing that put even light where you need it. Insulation-contact and airtight housings matter in California for both code and your energy bill, and we pick the right one for the ceiling. New fixtures are wired LED-ready from the start so you are not opening the ceiling again in two years.
LED retrofit done right
Swapping old cans or fixtures to LED cuts the energy draw and the heat, and the lamps last for years instead of months. The catch most people hit is the dimmer: an old dimmer driving new LEDs flickers and hums because it was never designed for the load. We check the existing wiring and dimmer, and replace them with LED-compatible controls when they are not up to it, so the retrofit looks finished rather than half done.

How many recessed lights do I need in a room?
A commonly used rule is one fixture per 4 to 6 square feet of ceiling, but it depends on ceiling height, room use, and whether you’re using directional or flood fixtures. We spec it based on the room before giving you a fixture count.
Can you retrofit my existing recessed lights to LED?
Yes. LED retrofit kits fit into most existing 4- and 6-inch can housings without ceiling damage. We also check whether the existing wiring and dimmer are LED-compatible and replace them if not.
What color temperature is right for my kitchen?
Most kitchens benefit from 3000K to 3500K , warm white with enough clarity for food prep. Task lighting over counters can go slightly cooler (4000K) while ambient lighting stays warmer. We carry samples to help you decide.
Do outdoor lighting installations require permits?
In most cases, outdoor lighting attached to the home and running from house power requires a permit. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection so you have a clean record.
What is the difference between line voltage and low voltage landscape lighting?
Line voltage (120V) is permanent and bright. Low voltage (12V) uses a transformer and is safer for DIY, but professionally installed systems are more reliable and properly protected from weather. We install both depending on the application.
